The DAQ and clock distribution system of CMS MIP Timing Detector

The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is undergoing an extensive Phase-II upgrade program to cope with challenging conditions of High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). A new timing designed measure minimum ionizing particles (MIPs) a time resolution 30–60 ps during entire HL-LHC phase. common data acquisition (DAQ) system will collect from readout chips, reconstruct information, and send event builder. MIP (MTD) DAQ built around state-of-the-art ATCA-form-factor Serenity board two high-speed FPGAs. precision clock synchronized collision rate 40 MHz received subsystem transmitted via links. full-readout chain has been tested using prototypes DAQ, on-detector electronics, sensors, showing that can successfully achieve below 30 ps.
